Gold, founder of America’s Frontline Doctors, was also sentenced to pay a $ 9,500 fine, the largest ever imposed on nearly 200 convicted rebels.
“Your organization leaves people with the false impression that this is political persecution or freedom of speech,” said District Judge Christopher Cooper as he handed down the sentence, criticizing US Frontline Doctors’ fundraising efforts, which called January “political persecution”.
Cooper called the fundraising effort, which raised more than $ 400,000, “indecent” and “a disservice to the real victims that day.”
“It’s not about freedom of speech,” Cooper added. “January 6 was about a lot of things, but it wasn’t about freedom of speech or the Covid vaccinations … the only reason you’re here is where, when and how you chose to express your views.
Gold spoke at the Stop the Theft rally on Jan. 5, the day before the riot, telling the crowd that “if you don’t want to get an experimental biological agent deceptively called a vaccine, you shouldn’t allow yourself to be forced!”
The next day, prosecutors said, she and her co-accused John Strand joined a group of rebels who passed a group of officers trying to stop the mob from violating the Capitol. After entering, Gold spoke into a megaphone with a crowd gathered in the Statuary Hall.
Strand pleaded not guilty.
In 2020, Gold made headlines after appearing in a viral video – which was then retweeted by then-President Donald Trump – which was later removed from a number of social media sites for misinformation about Covid.
The video shows Gold and other members of the American Frontline Doctors, known for spreading lies about coronavirus vaccines, standing on the steps of the Supreme Court, arguing that masks are not needed to prevent the spread of coronavirus, and promoting hydroxychloroquine such as cure.
Since then, gold has been blocked by social media platforms such as Facebook.
U.S. Frontline Doctors told CNN last year that Gold “was not involved in any incident involving violence or vandalism and strongly condemned any such activity” by others, and said the organization had recommended other vaccines to patients but “offered more research and greater transparency are needed with regard to COVID-19 vaccines. ”
A number of alleged rebels have passed theories about a vaccine against Covid or refused to be vaccinated. A husband and wife carrying signs of protest against the Capitol vaccines were sentenced to two years probation last August.
Many defendants held in DC Prison while awaiting trial complained of lack of access to prisons because they refused to be vaccinated, and some judges were reluctant to have defendants who were not vaccinated in their courtrooms.
