Police in New York have released new photos showing wanted thieves stealing more than 400 bulletproof vests donated months ago to help Ukraine’s military efforts following the invasion of Russian forces.

The six suspects – some of whom are smiling and carrying large garbage bags of surveillance images – claim to have broken into the headquarters of the Ukrainian Congressional Committee of America and the Ukrainian National Women’s League of America, located in the East Village area of ​​Manhattan. The individuals loaded the vests into three different vehicles that fled to Brooklyn, police said. The New York Police Department also released a photo of one of these vehicles, a white van, on Friday.

The Suffolk County Sheriff of Long Island donated about 450 used, decommissioned vests to the Ukrainian Congressional Committee of America for Ukrainian medics and aid workers, but it was unclear whether the vests donated by the agency were among the stolen ones, WNBC reported.

“It is disgusting for someone to break into a building to steal supplies and materials designed to help those affected by this humanitarian crisis,” said Vicki DiStefano, a spokeswoman for Suffolk County Sheriff Errol Toulon Jr.
