Apple began accepting orders for a 13-inch MacBook Pro with an M2 chip this morning, and as with many other Macs, this new machine is facing some delivery delays.
Selected custom configurations of the M2 MacBook Pro with upgraded unified memory have been ordered late and will not be available for delivery until August. All 13-inch MacBook Pro models in the United States with a 24 GB unified memory upgrade selected have delivery dates from August 3 to August 10.
Commodity MacBook Pro models are available for delivery on the day of launch, which is Friday, June 24, but other memory and SSD upgrades postpone delivery until at least July.
It’s no surprise to see a delay in the delivery of the 13-inch MacBook Pro, because Apple is dealing with a shortage of supplies for the Mac for most of the year. The 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro models, even standard configurations, in some cases do not arrive to customers until mid-August.
Apple said these supply problems could be due to continuing shortages of components and manufacturing problems caused by the global pandemic.
During a call for earnings in April, Apple CFO Luca Maestri said Apple expects current supply problems to affect product sales in the third fiscal quarter of 2022. Apple had trouble meeting demand in the second quarter and expected these problems will worsen later in the year.
Supply restrictions are expected to cost Apple between $ 4 billion and $ 8 billion and will affect many of Apple’s product categories.
Apple has not yet announced a release date for the M2 MacBook Air, but given the Mac delays we’ve seen throughout 2022, a supply shortage can be expected.
