The unsolved murder of a Ontario teenager who “disappeared without a trace” in 1980 could be broken by an unusual button found near her remains, police said.
Ontario police have called for information Tuesday about the murder of Veronica Kay.
The 18-year-old was last seen in November 1980 after leaving her grandmother’s apartment in Etobico and boarding a Mississauga Transit bus to Square One Mall.
Police said she stopped on the way to Cherish Photography and met a friend.
“This was the last time anyone saw Veronica alive. She disappeared without a trace,” police said in a statement Tuesday.
Kay’s body was found 11 months later in an “isolated woodland” on Humber Station Road in Caledon.
No arrests have ever been made and the case remains unsolved.
QUESTIONS QUESTIONS
According to police, an “unusual button” was found near Kay’s body, which did not come from her clothes.
“(This) remains a long question for investigators,” police said. “This button can help find her killer.”
Police are urging anyone who can identify the button and “possibly help resolve the case” to come forward.
“In a renewed request, the family is asking the public to come out if they know something, or someone who may be involved in Veronica’s brutal murder,” police said. “For Veronica’s family, the pain is still real and they long for answers.”
