The home restaurant crashed after cockroaches found “all over the store” – including the serving counter

Inspectors say they found cockroaches at the food service stand at Failsworth’s home. The owners of Master Chef, Oldham Road, have now pleaded guilty to food hygiene violations.

The dead cockroaches were found during a routine inspection by the Oldham council on December 2, 2020. Environmental officials say they found German cockroaches in the store, including on sticky boards and serving countertops.

The flooring and equipment were also dirty, and there was nothing for the staff to dry their hands in the sink. The business was immediately closed.

Takeaway owner Abdul Ahad of Wicklow Grove, Oldham, and business were jointly charged with two offenses under the Food Safety and Hygiene Regulations (England) of 2013. On 19 May 2022, Tamside Magistrates’ Court found them guilty of all charges.

Ahad, 53, and the company were ordered to hand over a total of £ 1,934. Council chiefs say the case will “terrify” residents.

Emma Barton, executive director for space and economic growth, said: “The details of this prosecution will understandably terrify people. No business should operate in dirty and unhealthy conditions. If our employees find a business that does, we will take action. “
