Porsche strives to evoke a healthy dose of nostalgia with its latest addition to the iconic 911 family: meet the 2023 Porsche 911 Sport Classic, inspired by the retro 992-gen 911. According to the German carmaker, it is “inspired by the original 911 ”and in particular Carrera 2.7 RS. This will be a limited edition model with only 1,250 units planned and, yes, some of them will come to Canada. The Porsche 911 Sport Classic is the second of a series of four Heritage Design models, the first being the 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition.

A limited edition Porsche 911 Sport Classic debuts with 543 hp. Back to the video
In terms of performance, the 911 Sport Classic gets the same 3.7-liter flat turbocharged six as the 911 Turbo. However, instead of 572 hp, power was reduced to 543 hp. Don’t switch off now; there is a good reason for the “downgrade”. This power is supplied exclusively to the rear wheels by a proper, God-given seven-speed switch.
Going down this route, Porsche sacrifices the stable performance of the 911 Turbo for a more engaging driving experience. This also means that the 911 Sport Classic is the most powerful handheld 911 on the market today. Complementing the drive unit is a “specially adapted” sports muffler; and the usual Porsche extras such as rear-wheel drive, active stabilizers and Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM).

Highlights of the 911 Sport Classic’s exterior include a carbon-fiber double-balloon roof and hood. The wheels are exclusive to the model and are a modern interpretation of Fuchs’ design, another homage to Porsche’s heritage, just like Sport Gray Metallic paint and contrasting bright Sport Gray stripes.
Customers will also be able to point to the 911 Sport Classic in black (non-metallic), agate gray metallic or cinnamon blue metallic. However, the most striking element of the design should be the retro spoiler “duck tail” at the rear, just like the 911 Carrera 2.7 RS.

The theme of heritage continues in the interior with the use of Pepita fabric upholstery for door panels and seats. Combines well with leather and wood trim, which are part of the standard package. A badge on the passenger’s side of the instrument panel above the glove compartment lists the vehicle’s serial number in the production cycle of 1250 units.
The 911 Sport Classic will be available in Canada as a car from the 2023 model year, with the first units expected to land at your local Porsche Center in late 2022. There is no pricing information yet, but this probably doesn’t matter much to loyalists. of Porsche and ardent collectors, who no doubt are already taking steps to ensure distribution.
