A high school in Sarnia will be closed for personal training on Thursday as police investigate the discovery of an alarming message.
The Lambton-Kent School Board (LKDSB) issued a statement early Wednesday night that the Northern University Institute and Vocational School (NCIVS) will move to distance learning on Thursday due to safety concerns after school around the end of the school day on Wednesday.
“The disturbing reports were specific to the NCIVS website and the concern does not concern other schools in the area,” said LKDSB Director John Howitt in a statement. “The safety of students and staff is a top priority for the LKDSB and we are working with local police to determine appropriate actions to ensure school safety,” said principal John Howitt.
Neither the Sarnia Police Department nor the LKDSB have clarified what the statement said.
“There are no concerns about the safety of staff and students at other schools in the area,” a statement from Sarnia police said.
Last week, another high school in the area closed temporarily for similar reasons. As a result, the young man was arrested and charged in connection with a threatening message found at the Lambton Central Collegiate & Procational School (LCCVI) in Petrolia.
The state school board said it would provide updates when they become available.
