Vacationers’ flights were delayed or canceled at Leeds Bradford Airport on Sunday after a plane had difficulty landing on the runway and firefighters were dispatched to the scene. At around 2pm (June 5), Leeds Bradford aircraft observers told Leeds Live that passengers on board a flight to Faro had been escorted off the plane.
The Ryainair flight, which originally landed normally in Leeds Bradford, had a “small tire problem” on the runway. The plane was towed to a stand and inspected by engineers before the runway was later reopened.
Photos from the scene show a strong reaction from the fire department and the crews stayed at the scene for several hours. Several flights were delayed, including Ryanair’s flight to Faro at 12.15, Jet2’s flight to Paris at 13.25 and then FlyBe’s flight to Belfast City at 13.30. Others were diverted, including an incoming flight of a Jet2 LS256 from Gerona, which was sent to Manchester Airport due to the temporary closure of the runway.

Also canceled are the Paris LS315 flight with Jet2 and LS205 to Amsterdam, also with Jet2.
One man told a reporter that the plane “blocked” the runway for some time after landing, causing other planes to be diverted as fire crews remained on the scene.
A statement from Leeds Bradford Airport said: “Our on-site firefighting operations were present on the runway to assist Ryanair’s incoming flight with landing difficulties. Passenger safety is our top priority and our team responds promptly to manage the incident.
“As part of this, we decided to divert four flights to nearby airports while supporting the flights. All passengers disembarked safely and operations returned to normal.
A Ryainair spokesman added: “This flight from Faro to Leeds (June 5) landed normally at Leeds Bradford Airport at 11.40am, where there was then a small problem with the runway tire. The passengers got off normally and were transported to the terminal by bus.
“The plane was towed to a stand at 13:16 and inspected by our engineers in accordance with normal procedures, in turn the runway was reopened at 13:23. A replacement aircraft was deployed for the other sectors.
This comes after passengers again reported long queues in front of the airport on Sunday morning before early departures. A Leeds Bradford airport spokesman advised passengers to arrive at the airport three hours before their trip.
They said: “We are currently expecting longer queues for our security process. We would recommend that you arrive no earlier than three hours before departure to ensure a reasonable time for security screening. “
Manchester Airport has also faced queues when sending luggage and security in recent weeks. IN Manchester evening news reported one-hour queues, piles of abandoned bags in recovery and canceled last-minute flights last week.
