A recycling center in Wythenshawe had to be closed and evacuated after a “grenade” was found at the site. Emergency services descended at the Longley Lane recycling center in Sharston after being called for reports of an open grenade at the site around 4pm today (June 24th).
An hour later, Recycle for Greater Manchester told residents on social media that the recycling center was “temporarily closed due to an emergency.” Eyewitnesses say they saw workers standing in front of the summit while a large police presence was present.
Manchester police say its staff went to the scene and managed to remove the suspicious device. Fire crews were also sent to the recycling center to help police deal with the incident.
