The Supreme Court overturned the hidden weapons law in New York with a broad decision

WASHINGTON – The Supreme Court overturned New York State’s system for issuing permits for concealed weapons, ruling that a century-old law requiring applicants to demonstrate “the right cause” and “good moral character” violated the Second Amendment.

Judgment 6-3 of the case, New York State Rifle & Pistol Association Inc. v. Bruen, marks the broadest extension of gun rights since 2010, when a country-wide court enforced a 2008 ruling establishing an individual right to armed self-defense within the House. This calls into question similar laws in at least eight other states and the District of Columbia, where the authorities have considerable discretion regarding the issuance of concealed weapons permits.
