The train drivers’ strike will affect more than 90% of services in Greater Anglia | Railroad strikes

Rail company Greater Anglia is advising people not to travel on its services on Saturday due to a strike by drivers in a pay dispute.

The company said more than 90% of its services would not run due to the 24-hour strike by members of the machinists’ union Aslef.

There will be no regional or branch services and other services will be drastically reduced.

Greater Anglia trains will not run between Cambridge North, Cambridge and London Liverpool Street. The Norwich-London Liverpool Street intercity service will be limited to six trains in each direction throughout the day, with the last train returning to Norwich at 9.30pm.

Colchester-London Liverpool Street and Stansted Express services will also have reduced hours and significantly fewer trains, with later starts and earlier finish times than normal.

There will be no rail replacement buses to replace trains not running due to the strikes. Services on Sunday will start later in the morning than usual as the 24-hour strike has a knock-on effect the following day.

People traveling to a Guns N’ Roses concert at Tottenham Hotspur’s stadium will not be able to get to or from the venue on Greater Anglia trains. The strike will also affect people traveling to see Adele in Hyde Park on Saturday, who are also being advised to make alternative arrangements.

Jamie Burles, managing director of Greater Anglia, said: “Please avoid traveling on our trains this Saturday. Unfortunately, as our drivers are on strike, it is possible to only offer a heavily reduced service and only on some routes.

“We are unable to replace all trains not running due to the strike with rail replacement buses, so train service will be extremely limited on Saturday, so we strongly advise passengers to make alternative arrangements.”

“We are very sorry for the disruption this strike is causing our customers. We know that many of our customers will look forward to traveling on Saturdays to see family and friends, for days at the beach, for holidays and for London’s many concerts and sporting events.

“Work is ongoing at an industry level to try to resolve the dispute as soon as possible.”
