This is the biggest Broadway event of the year, celebrating the best theater on the Great White Road.
“West Side Story” star and Oscar winner Ariana DeBois is the host of the show and told CNN earlier this week what to expect.
“I think I’m going to do what everyone thinks I’m going to do, namely sing dances and try to play and make it a spectacle,” she said, laughing. “And maybe I’ll surprise some people who know it’s live from coast to coast … and that makes it exciting. There’s nothing like live theater.”
A self-determined theater fan, DeBois said she turned to past Tony Awards shows to prepare for her role on Sunday.
“I’ve watched countless, countless Tony shows again, and I’m not James Cordon, I’m certainly not Neil Patrick Harris or Hugh Jackman on that. “I’m not Upie Goldberg either, but I’m inspired by all of them,” Deboz said. “I’m excited about it because it’s a playground for me. I’ve never done that, so I’m just starting to experiment and the good thing is that I love these people and I don’t mind falling on my face and looking like a little idiot to the people I love. So, let’s get started! “
