BETTING OVERVIEW SCOUTING REPORT Odds: Edwards (-170), Pascual (+150)

round 1

For the first time since the pandemic closed in 2020, the UFC is breaking the cycle of the United States, Fight Island or London. This pay-per-view card, which is broadcast very early to local crowds in Singapore, will be placed at the One Championship home, in the very building that One has made its home over the past few years. This will be done with a battle card, which can start slowly, but is upgraded to something that can be quite special, and we start with a rare tilt for women in the lightweight category. After losing his UFC debut in February, Pascual (6-3, 0-1 UFC) will try again in the division, this time to face former legal category Edwards (10-4, 1-2 UFC) at 145 pounds. The completion rate of 80% or higher follows both women in this match, so the judges hope to get out of the equation, while referee John Sharp may be needed in a moment. The ladies do not touch the gloves to open the night, but instead would like to exchange strikes earlier. Pascual starts with a few slow low kicks, and seems to be looking for more range than damage. Edwards also pulls away with his hands with half effort, and she reaches out with her right hand, which has significantly more mustard. Pascual responds with a heavier kick, and Edwards pulls her down and punches Pascual in the face several times. Pascual bounces off the wall and tries to get her kicks off, but Edwards manages to check one and pauses. Edwards measures her with multiple front kicks, and she crushes her enemy with cyclical blows that force Pascual to ricochet off the fence again. Pascual wants to make his way in a takedown attempt, and although she is countered with a solid right hand, she reduces the distance and ties Edwards. The pink-haired Edwards does not want to stay in this position and she pushes her opponent fiercely back to get the separation she is looking for. Edwards checks her own kick with her foot when she does it from a distance, and she doesn’t seem worried as she keeps throwing them away as she mixes them with punches in the middle. Edwards manages to keep the fighter from the Philippines at bay with multiple thrusts at the top of his torso, and she marks Pascual’s body with those kicks over and over. Edwards is marked by a single blow, but she does not delay her approach with a large volume, which is more to the touch than to inflict serious damage. As Edwards takes a side kick, Pascual turns to her and presses her against the wall. Edwards tries to change things with his own journey, and Pascual struggles with that and backs away to hit Edwards in the middle with a kick. La Pantera makes a loud snort of pain as it doubles as a blow, and Pascual sees that it has done some damage and tries to finish the work with fists and knees. Edwards survived, blocked several counterattacks and withdrew. As he does so, Pascual kicks her in the head and Edwards swings back to the cage. Pascual’s time is running out before she can find the stop, as the horn sounds in the middle of the combination.

2nd round

Edwards seems to start in the second frame with more than his volume-oriented approach, in part hoping to keep Pascual away from her so he can get the rest of his wind back. Pascual continues forward nonetheless, and she drives the Panamanian into the wire as he hits her. Edwards moved away and launched with a combination of four strokes, the latter having the most significant impact from the group. Pascual ignores her as she goes head-to-head instead of heading for the compromised middle, and she hits Edwards in the chops with two hooks. Edwards kicks the body with outstretched fingers, forcing Pascual to fight at the end of the enemy’s kicks. Pascual reaches out with his left hook, which catches his eye from his chin, and Edwards shakes it off and continues to paw with punches. Pascual seeks to be removed, and Edwards stretches or crowds her with ease and continues to beat Pascual’s body. Edwards keeps her mouth open and lowers her arms, but her kicks keep coming to keep Pascual from her full-throated attacks. Edwards’ strikes slow down, but are effective in forcing Pascual to take a step back to avoid them. Edwards hits a kick to the outside of Pasquale’s thigh, and her kicks are practically the only offense coming from the two women for a good stretch. Pascual swings to the left, but she is out of range thanks to Edwards’ kicks. Edwards adjusted his trajectory to kicks to turn some into oblique kicks, tapping to the knee and giving Pascual a little pause. Pascual swallows a few for strength in a pair of punches, and Edwards is sharper with a counter-right. Pascual gets tired of taking those body kicks, grabbing one, and throwing Edwards on the mat with seconds to go. Instead of playing guard, Pascual leaves her behind while the horn sounds.

Edwards decided to continue his work with light kicks in the body and knee, and these are pitter strikes, which are barely loaded strokes with little or no impact on them. She sits on a few, but they are blocked or checked accordingly when she does. Pascual ignores the kicks so that she can rush forward in pursuit of a single, and Edwards hits her with elbows that land in the spine, forcing a warning from Sharpe. Edwards gets the right lever to push Pascual away from her, and she pulls herself away so she can resume her steady approach to kicks. Pasquale shrugs a few shoulders to throw forward, and she is caught with the uppercut on the way to the entrance, but still manages to catch a single. Not only does Edwards stop him, but she strikes several blows to the head and body, causing a visible reaction from her enemy. Edwards has several solid kicks in the body of the slow Pascual, who looks stunned by the blows. Edwards took this opportunity to kick him with an ax, but he was out of range. Pascual responded to several blows with one powerful, and Edwards changed positions for a short time. “La Pantera” crashes forward with a blow to the superwoman and she hits Pascual with the uppercut. They kicked at the same time, and Edwards responded with a few more to all the targets low and high. Pascual kicks her body to trip Edwards, but Edwards bounces on her other leg and grabs her leg back to make room. Edwards then cuts his opponent and kicks him in the body, opening blows to the head, while Pascual reacts again. Edwards straightens Pascual when Pascual tries to take her down and she strikes several blows. Pascual shoots forward for a desperate takedown that is not close to the target, while Edwards pushes it away and marks it with blows. They both exchange high blows and the battle is over. It could be close, depending on how the judges evaluate Edwards’ excellent volume compared to Pascual’s more powerful shots in the first two rounds.

Jocelyn Edwards def. Ramona Pascual with unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28) BET OVERVIEW | SCOUTING REPORT Odds: Juarez (-150), Liang (+130)

round 1

When the official result is announced, except for the unexpected, Liang (19-5, 0-1 UFC) or Juarez (10-4, 0-2 UFC) will win their first octagon victory. Since Liang entered the cage, her record has changed slightly, with four countless victories unveiled by the unstoppable Fight Finder team. “Dragon Girl” has never won a card battle with results after 19 overall victories, while the Argentine’s own part of stopping is an impressive 80% in itself. Referee Steve Purceval may have his hands full here, but he notices a respectful touch of gloves before the straw weights are thrown. Liang reaches out early with punches and low kicks and she throws a front kick for good measure. Juarez backs away when Liang turns to looping to the right, and Liang tries another one that he just misses. Liang dives low for a single, and she lifts Juarez’s leg in the air, but can’t let her go. Juarez is released thanks to short blows from the inside and she leaves Liang to come together and meet her in the middle. A question mark from Liang misses the mark and she falls on the mat. “Dragon Girl” jumps back and looks for a takedown, and Juarez silences her and pushes her back. Juarez stretches out his hand with his left, measuring his target and wings his right hand over the top, which smashes Liang in the face. The Chinese fighter falls to his knees, and when he returns to his feet, Juarez greets her with a waving right and a devastating left, which knocks her to the floor in great trouble. Purcell sees that Liang may be completely off and intervenes as Liang rolls over on his back and stares at the lights. This is one way to win your first UFC victory with a clear knockout in less than 90 seconds.
