Undertale creator Toby Fox composed music for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

This is a big day for connoisseurs of Toby Fox’s soundtrack: the indie developer and composer behind Undertale is working on the music for the upcoming Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

Today Fox shared a tweet with new trailer and announced that he had composed the theme of the game. According to Fox, Game Freak has arranged drafts of its composition in different versions that will be played throughout the game.

Although the instrumentation doesn’t sound particularly Undertale-style, parts of his distinctive musical style can still be heard in the trailer below.

I had the honor of composing field music for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet! After creating a concept sketch, Game Freak arranged it in many versions that you will hear during the game. You can hear some of this in this trailer … https://t.co/dhjv4e9fQN

He will also compose several other songs for the games. This isn’t the first time Fox has composed a song for a Pokémon game – he has put together a battle theme for Sword and shield from 2019, although today’s news marks a major step in the world of Pokémon music for Fox. “This time my music is not your choice !!!” he said in response.

Fox’s composing skills were initially recognized thanks to the success of Undertale and Deltarune soundtracks, the first of which we called “excellent” in our review of the game. Since its release in 2015, Undertale’s music has become so iconic that even Pope has even heard a song from Undertale.
