UPDATE: A woman shot in a “targeted incident” published a description of the suspect

SIMCOE A woman was shot dead in what police called a targeted incident at Simcoe on Saturday morning.

In a press release released shortly after Sunday afternoon, the Norfolk County OPP provided details of the wanted suspect.

Police say the suspect was described as a heavy black man with dreadlocks. During the shooting, he was wearing a gray hood with dark pants.

The suspect was seen entering a red or burgundy sports car parked on Nelson Street South in Simco. The suspicious vehicle was last seen traveling on Queen Street South.

Police are asking anyone who may have a dashboard camera or home surveillance video system to check their footage and contact the Norfolk County OPP at 1-888-310-1122 with any information that may help with the investigation.

The Norfolk County OPP responded to reports of a shooting at a West Street residence shortly before 11 a.m. Saturday.

Officers arrived to find a woman with a gunshot wound. The woman was transported to a hospital for treatment of injuries. Her status was not published in the latest police update.

West St. was blocked for traffic as the OPP canine unit, as well as members of the tactical rescue unit and the emergency response team, were looking for suspects. OPP Aviation Services also assisted in the search.

Police and canine officers could be spotted searching the backyards of homes in the area.

“Investigators believe this is not an accident, but rather a deliberate incident that remains under investigation,” said Acting Sgt. Ed Sanchuk

Roadblocks were lifted by mid-afternoon, but some officials remained in the area.

The Norfolk County Crime Department and the Haldimand / Norfolk Community Street Division are continuing their investigation.
