A power outage in Wonderland led to a dire situation after guests were trapped in attractions for about 30 minutes during a severe storm in Ontario this weekend.
In a video published on TikTok on Sunday, which has been viewed more than 1.3 million times since then, people can be seen stranded during a walk while the park is hit by strong winds and rain.
“Oh God, they’re just stuck in it,” the man recording the video can be heard saying. “They’re just stuck there.”
In a statement to CTV News Toronto, Wonderland said they began closing the attractions on Saturday morning due to “a sudden, strong thunderstorm approaching the park.”
They said the ride seen in the TikTok video was Behemoth, one of the largest trains in the park.
“Shortly afterwards, there was a power outage and several trips, including the Behemoth train, stopped with guests on board,” said Wonderland spokesman Grace Peacock. “Transport and maintenance staff worked to evacuate guests as quickly and safely as possible.”
Peacock said Behemoth guests were stuck during the trip for about 30 minutes, but no one was injured.
According to Wonderland’s safety procedures, rides are not carried out when lightning or bad weather is nearby.
“The park has a lightning detection system that tells us when lightning is within eight kilometers, 13 kilometers and 15 kilometers from the park,” the park said.
“Aviators are arranged to be excluded according to this information, based on their height and dynamics. So it may look like a clear sky over Leviathan when we temporarily close it, but our staff can see something very different on the radar. ”
