Part of the UK is expected to warm up from a second heat wave within days as temperatures rise to 28C later this week.
The Meteorological Service said Britain would enjoy mostly dry and sunny days ahead after thunderstorms and lightning over the weekend.
Parts of Sussex, Kent, Essex and Suffolk have been struck by lightning strikes as temperatures dropped from last week’s heat wave, which brought three consecutive hottest days of the year.
While peaks above 32 ° C are not expected to repeat in recent weeks, the weather will be warm again next week, with temperatures expected to reach 28 ° C in London by Thursday.
The whole of the UK can expect a “dry, nice and bright” start to the week, along with “lots of sunshine” as well as temperatures in the low 20s for the first half of the week, the Bureau of Meteorology said.
Weather forecaster Simon Patridge said: “After a very volatile weekend, we expect the weather to calm down this week as high blood pressure develops.
“This high pressure is rising from the western part of the United Kingdom in the first half of the week, which brings very dry and good weather in all parts except the far northwest.
The northwest can expect more cloudy weather and rain, with some precipitation forecast in the south of the UK.
Temperatures will rise throughout the week and are expected to reach a high of 20 to Thursday, the Metaphysus said.
Weather forecasters issued a warning last week of heat in London, the east of England and the south-east as temperatures approached 33 degrees.
Santon Downham, Norfolk, recorded the highest temperature for the year so far – 32.7 degrees Celsius on Friday.
Temperatures dropped sharply over the weekend and the meteorological service issued a rare flash of warming when the UK was hit by a “huge pile” of thunderstorms.
