For the first time in school history, Ole Miss is a national baseball champion at the college. The rebels used the bottom of the eighth to come from behind and beat Oklahoma in Game 2 of the World Series College finals on Sunday afternoon (Ole Miss 4, Oklahoma 2). They swept the best of Charles Schwab Field Omaha’s three series in Nebraska.

Here is the finale of this year’s college world series:

Despite the loss, the star of Game 2 was freshman with a red T-shirt from Oklahoma Cade Horton. Horton missed the entire 2021 season with Tommy John’s surgery and returned to the game in late March. He held the rebels to two runs in 7 2/3 innings on Sunday and set a new record in the finals of the college world series with 13 outs. Horton is eligible for this year’s draft, but is not considered a potential first-round player.

Oklahoma led 2-1 in the eighth inning of Game 2 and they received two quick outs to start the frame, leaving them four outs from forcing the winner to take it all, Game 3. Instead, the next five battling Ole Miss reached a base for passing through three runs: double, walking, double, kick on the field, walking. The goal was scored on a wild pitch, which was the result of a cross up:

Ole Miss Jr. Dylan DeLussia was named MVP in the College World Series. He made two masterpieces in Omaha, holding Auburn to one run in 7 1/3 innings until he cleared 10 on June 18, then blew seven in a full game with four Arkansas strikes on June 23. It’s one run with eight hits in 16 2/3 innings at World Series College. DeLucia drew 17.

The rebels certainly did not take the easy path to the college world series. They were 7-14 in the conference game on May 1 and were one big team in the field of the 64th post-season tournament. Ole Miss won the Coral Gables regional competition and beat Southern Mississippi 15-0 in the best of three superregional games to reach Omaha.

As for Oklahoma, they won the Gainesville regional competition and beat Virginia Tech in three games in the Super Regional Tournaments.
